Annmarie Skin Care Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation Review

Share

UPDATE 2023: Annmarie Skin Care Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation and sample kits have been discontinued (I’m so sad, it was my favorite complexion makeup for many years). Read on if you are still curious about the makeup or the brand.

I have absolutely fallen head over heals in love with Annmarie Skin Care Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation (it’s my new best friend!).

I’m normally pretty strict about avoiding makeup when you’re trying to clear up breakouts and acne – but, this makeup could very well be an exception…

Annmarie Skin Care Minerals Multi Purpose Foundation and sample kit review

Personalized non-comedogenic makeup, made just for you (by you!)

What sets this makeup apart from the rest, and why I love it so much – it’s a powdered mineral pigment that you mix with your own facial oil, serum, or moisturizer to make a foundation, concealer, or tinted moisturizer.

You’re basically making your own makeup by adding an all-natural pigmented powder to skincare products you’re already using and know are compatible with your skin.

No more buying makeup wondering if it’s going to give you breakouts or matches your skin tone – you have full control over the product, shade/tone, coverage, and ingredients you are putting on your skin.

For example, let’s say you’ve finally found a moisturizing facial oil or serum that works perfectly with your skin, it’s soothing and moisturizing, and doesn’t cause any breakouts. Imagine you can add some mineral pigment that matches your skin tone to that oil or serum, and turn it into a foundation or concealer.

Or, let’s say you’ve found the most perfect moisturizer that balances and hydrates your skin, but what would be even better is a tinted version of that moisturizer to give you light coverage to even out your skin tone, and disguise any blemishes or bumps.

Well, you can add Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation to any facial oil, serum, moisturizer, lotion, or cream – and pretty much make your own makeup out of it.

What else do I love about Annmarie Skin Care Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation?

It’s made with just 4 ingredients

Yes, this powdered foundation is made out of only 4 ingredients – All natural. All safe. All non-toxic.

If you’re like me and have sensitive or acne-prone skin, buying makeup can be a challenge, and even a risk. The problem with most makeup is they’re usually made with 20+ ingredients, and something in there can potentially cause a reaction. If you’ve got reactive skin, the less ingredients in the products you’re using, the better.

The ingredients:

Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide, Mica

I’m a big fan of non-nano zinc oxide, because for me, I find zinc oxide to always be very soothing and anti-inflammatory (and for sensitive skin, this is a plus).

These four powdered minerals are also known to be non-comedogenic, and since you’re mixing it with your own oil, serum, or moisturizer (that you already know works well with your skin), the risk of having any kind of reaction or breakout is pretty minimal.

It comes in 8 shades for a perfect colour match

There’s nothing more frustrating than finding a makeup or product you like, but the shade doesn’t quite match your skin, or it isn’t complementary to your skin tone.

Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation comes in 8 shades.

You’ll either find one that matches your skin perfectly, or you might have to mix two together for the perfect match. I like that if need be, you can adjust the shade. We all know everyone has different skin colours and undertones, and this will give you a lot more options and an exact colour match.

Also, if you live in a location with extreme seasons, your skin colour can change from winter to summer, or while you are travelling to locations with different climates. This makeup is great because it can be adjusted at any time if your skin tone changes.

Below is a photo of all 8 shades of Annmarie Skin Care Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation (their Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation Sample Kit comes with samples vials of all 8 shades, so I applied a swatch of each shade along my forearm for you to see the full range).

You have complete control over the amount of coverage

So, not only can you adjust and perfect the shade of the Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation, but you can control the amount of coverage too.

I know some of you like a lighter, more natural coverage, whereas others want a full flawless finish.

You control the amount of coverage by how much Minerals you mix with your oil, serum, or moisturizer (for a lighter coverage you’d use less Minerals, for fuller coverage, you’d use more).

I do want to say, a little goes a long way! In fact, I’m impressed with just how little of the Minerals powdered makeup you need. Plus, if you like to “build” your coverage, meaning you like to layer the coverage for the perfect look, you can.

I’ve been using Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation for almost two months (and daily), and I’ve experimented a lot with combining it with different skincare products for different looks and finishes.

For light coverage (like a tinted moisturizer): I recommend mixing Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation with a moisturizer (either a lotion or cream).

For medium or full coverage (like a foundation or concealer): I recommend mixing Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation with an oil or serum.

It’s very light weight, long lasting, and has a perfect finish

The big stand out for me is how light weight the makeup is, so even if you’re going for full coverage,  it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a heavy layer of makeup on your skin. In fact you don’t feel it at all. I’ve experimented mixing Annmarie Skin Care Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation with all sorts of skin care products from oils, creams, and even sunscreens – and the powdered makeup doesn’t add any weight to your products or hinder absorption.

I also like how long lasting the makeup is, it won’t move or melt off your face, even in hot weather. I wear Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation almost every day, and I don’t need to reapply or touch it up hours later. I put it on in the morning and it lasts all day. I find this is especially good when you make it into a concealer, it will stay in place all day and won’t fade (great for concealing blemishes and breakouts, under eye circles, hyperpigmentation, or any red patches on your face).

I will also say the finish is really nice, so if you’re mixing it with an oil that usually makes your skin look too shiny, it will matteify it slightly (it won’t take the shine completely away, but it will give you a nice dewy look as opposed to looking too oily or greasy). If you do want a matte finish, you can tap a small amount of Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation into the palm of your hand and with a makeup brush or powder puff, apply it as a finishing powder.

Adjustable for all skin types

Powdered mineral makeup absorbs excess moisture and oil (that’s why it’ll make facial oils look a little less shiny) – which for some people can really help balance oily and combination skin, but for others can be drying.

This is why a lot of mineral makeup is more compatible with oily, combination and normal skin types. The powders absorb excess oil and shine, and can also be great to use in hot summer months, or in hot or humid climates.

But unfortunately for those with dry and/or maturing skin, powdered mineral makeup can sometimes emphasize dryness, flakey skin, fine lines and wrinkles (not a good look!).

The beauty of Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation is you’re mixing the powdered pigments with your own moisturizer or oil, so you’re not only controlling the shade and coverage, but also how moisturizing it is.

In general, oils and serums can be more light weight than creams and lotions.

So, if you have oily, combination, or normal skin – you might be better off mixing Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation with an oil or serum (this is also a good option for hot/humid weather, or summer months)

If you have dry or maturing skin, I have found mixing Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation with a lotion or cream to be more moisturizing. This combination can also be good in cold, dry weather and winter months if your skin needs extra hydration and protection.

This is why I love Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation because its so versatile, and you can customize it to your needs. Gone are the days when you buy a makeup that dries out your skin, or the reverse, it’s so rich and heavy it feels like a mask that can glide off your skin at any time.

Color-match your other makeup and skincare products

This is one thing that I love the most.

I can’t tell you how many tinted sunscreens and products I have tried over the years that came in one universal tint/shade that was terrible for my skin tone.

As I said, I’m fair-skinned, but unlike a lot of fair-skinned people, my undertones are yellow, not pink. And many products that are tinted, come in a cool pink or grey undertones which make me look ill. Or worse, if they do come in a warm undertone, it’s too yellow that I look a little jaundice using them.

It’s frustrating, but since getting Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation I can now fix the tones of all these products for a much better colour match that complements my skin tone.

Annmarie Skin Care Minerals Multi Purpose Foundation review, mineral makeup powder to make a tinted moisturizer or foundation

How I use Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation

I personally like a light, natural finish, so I prefer mixing Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation with a moisturizer (I mix it with either Tata Harper Clarifying Moisturizer or Odacité Oleosomes Time Release Delivery Creme) to make a tinted moisturizer.

As you already know, I’m pregnant (I’m actually a few days away from my due date, right at the end!). And with this pregnancy came a lot of changes in my skin, most notably my skin went from being chronically oily to being very dry, and I’ve developed some hyperpigmentation as well. I’ve also had terrible morning sickness these past two months that goes on all day and night leaving me pale, dehydrated, and exhausted (no fun!).

That being said, you might understand why I refer to Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation as being “my new best friend!”

I like that I have full control over the shade and coverage, because there’s some days I feel so sick and pale, I need some extra colour. There’s other days I’m exhausted and need to disguise the dark circles under my eyes. And don’t get me started about the patches of hyperpigmentation growing on my forehead! Ah pregnancy hormones! And let’s just say a little makeup can make a world of difference (not only how I look, but how I feel too).

Annmarie Skin Care Minerals Multi Purpose Foundation and sample kit review

Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation Sample Kit

If you’re thinking about getting the Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation – I strongly recommend buying Annmarie Skin Care Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation Sample Kit first.

Here’s why:

– Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation Sample Kit comes with 8 sample vials of all 8 shades, plus a sample vial of Annmarie Skin Care’s Herbal Facial Oil For Normal/Combination Skin that you can mix with the Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation (see the photo above).

– Having samples of all the shades allows you to find a perfect match for your skin tone. One shade might be a perfect match, or you might need to mix two shades together.

– A little of this powdered makeup goes a long way (using it daily, one of those small sample vials can last an entire month, or more!).

– Having the extra samples of darker and lighter shades is always good to have on hand in case you go on vacation to a tropical or sunny place, and need to adjust your makeup to a slightly darker tone, or the reverse, you go somewhere cold and need to adjust your makeup to a lighter tone. You can also use the lighter and darker shades for highlighting and contouring.

– And, in my opinion, samples are always good. You get to try the makeup out, see how it feels on your skin, experiment with how the makeup works with the sample of the Herbal Facial Oil it comes with or mix the Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation with your own skin care products, and you make sure you choose the right shade for your skin tone. This ensures if you do end up buying the makeup, you know what you’re getting and you’re loving it already!

Have you tried Annmarie Skin Care Minerals Multi-Purpose Foundation? If so, tell us what you think?! (please comment below).

Also, I’m a big fan of the entire Annmarie Skin Care line – (my 3 current favourite skincare products are their Anti-Aging Eye Cream, Citrus Stem Cell Serum (formally Repair Serum), and Herbal Facial Oil For Normal/Combination Skin).
